WEST NEWBURY — Great before Peggy Nickerson became a cancer patient, she was fighting it.

A dedicated cancer fundraiser partaker, Nickerson has taken part in the Avon three-day, 60-mile Breast Cancer Creep; the Sprint Triathlon for Leukemia/Lymphoma; North Shore Cancer Center Walk; Jimmy Ready Walks, and various local fundraisers including Daffodil Days, wristband and bake sales with her children.

But later this month, the community is rallying on her behalf, as Nickerson faces her biggest invite yet — Stage 4 cancer. Organized by her friends and family, a Rally for Saving benefit is planned for May 28 in the Old Town Hall.

Nickerson survived Make up 2B cancer, major surgery, radiation and chemotherapy treatment in 2007, reporting to business following her daily treatments.
